The Constantines – Million Star Hotel

The Village — Thu, 13 Aug 2026 18:27:42 +0000

I listen to a lot of heavy and/or noisy stuff, but I always come back to the Constantines.

Fight Amp – What A Drag

The Village — Sat, 08 Jun 2013 23:12:44 +0000

Not having posted anything by Fight Amp in the three years I’ve been doing this is a criminal act of negligence. Send in Child Protective Services.

This band just crushes everything.

Go buy everything they’ve released and go see them every chance you get.

The Bronx – Ship High In Transit

The Village — Tue, 07 May 2013 03:34:53 +0000

I can not get enough of this band right now. Just the right amount of hardcore and Rocket From the Crypt with hints of cock rock.

The Hold Steady – Stay Positive

The Village — Mon, 08 Oct 2012 12:21:00 +0000

There is a line in this song that goes “There’s gonna come a time when the true scene leaders forget where they differ and get big picture ‘cause the kids at the shows, they’ll have kids of their own and the sing-along songs will be our scriptures.” I’m old enough that this is happening now.

In light of that, I’m going to spend the rest of the year highlighting our scriptures.

Tim Barry – South Hill

The Village — Sat, 22 Oct 2011 17:37:00 +0000

All posts in October will be from bands playing Fest 10 in Gainesville Florida. Everything will be posted in the order that they are playing.

Normal Tim Barry performances are just Tim, or sometimes Tim and Josh Small, last year at Fest, he played with 4 piece brass band.

Tim will bring it

The Gaslight Anthem – I Do Not Hook Up

The Village — Mon, 29 Aug 2011 15:59:00 +0000

All posts in the month of August will be covers.

Originally Kelly Clarkson

A second Kelly Clarkson cover? I didn’t see that coming.

I like this song, but it’s not as good as the band’s cover of “Once Upon A Time” by Robert Bradley’s Blackwater Surprise. But I already posted that in February, so here we are, with the silver medal winner.

Second place or not, this is still a great cover that sounds and feels so much different than the original.

Glass And Ashes – We Will Hang For This

The Village — Wed, 06 Jul 2011 15:48:25 +0000

For whatever dumb reason, I’ve always slept on this band. I bought their first album at some point in 2006/7 because No Idea was selling it for $2. I listened, thought it was ok, then forgot about it.

Dumb.

This is from the band’s second album, and if I had been paying any attention, Glass and Ashes would have been one of my favorite bands.

Members went on to be in Young Livers, who also broke up after 2 albums.
