Akai Solo – Driftman

The Village — Wed, 27 Sep 2023 17:00:23 +0000

Anything on Backwoodz Studios gets an auto-listen from me. It doesn’t all hit, but enough does that I always give it a try.

Tobe Nwigwe – Round Here (Part 1)

The Village — Sat, 23 Sep 2023 17:00:35 +0000

The Bill Burr line is pretty awful, but other than that, I really like this song.

The Village — Thu, 21 Sep 2023 14:35:17 +0000

Open Mike Eagle records are all slow burns with me. I feel I never really get into an album until the next one is announced.

I’ve been waiting for a full length from this band for a few years, and they nailed it with Easy Laugh late last year.

Demons – Inauguration Day

The Village — Fri, 24 Mar 2023 17:00:28 +0000

This song and Swallow, the ep its from feel like they were market tested and made in a lab specifically for me.

Not to say Demons is fake in anyway, it just that it hits so many of my zones so perfectly its hard to imagine it wasn’t made with me in mind.

Anyway, this rips and the digital version is free. Go get it.

Billy Woods – Sauvage

The Village — Fri, 16 Dec 2022 21:49:01 +0000

Billy Woods released two quality albums in one year, Aethiopes in April and Church in September. Initially Aethiopes didn’t really grab me, I think I never gave it a fair listen. But I was very into Church when it came out, enough so that I went back and gave Aethiopes another chance. Man, did I make a mistake.

Aethiopes (and Church) is one of my favorite albums of 2022.
