TAG: 2005

Hydreahead was one of the greatest labels ever.

There is a line in the song Stay Positive by the Hold Steady that goes “There’s gonna come a time when the true scene leaders forget where they differ and get big picture ‘cause the kids at the shows, they’ll have kids of their own and the sing-along songs will be our scriptures.”

I’m old enough that this is happening now. 

In light of that, I’m going to spend the rest of the year highlighting our scriptures.

New Testament.

Not all of these are going to be super fun jams, but that doesn’t mean they are not sing-along songs. I love this song, and depending on my mood, it can get to me pretty hard.

I’ll admit that “This Year” is probably the more obvious choice, but if I’m making this whole thing pseudo-religious, This Year is a Sunday School song.

There will probably be more Mountain Goats in this series.

This is my first and probably last Mastodon post. Their last couple of albums have bored the hell out of me. I have no issues with bands growing and changing, but don’t expect me to follow a long just because I liked the old stuff. I get to grow and change, too, or not at all. That shit is my call.

This song is taken from the mostly mediocre "We Reach: The Music of the Melvins" tribute album. There are some standout tracks like this one and the Isis/Agoraphobic Nosebleed track. Sean Ingram of Coalesce also makes an appearance on Blessing The Hogs’ cover of “Hog Leg.” Dude can’t stay away from cover songs.

Full on balls to the wall rock. So good. 

This was taken from a split Coliseum did with Doomriders called “Not Of This World,” in which both bands covered Danzig songs. Hunt it down, it's worth it.

I can not stop listening to this band.
