TO CARRY THE FLAME

Their first, but not last, secret album. Recorded and pressed to vinyl and available at shows in 2012. A bigger standard release came a little later, but they just made and released a record without telling anyone. After No, secert albums/ suprise drops became their thing, like the 2 Ape of God albums and Seminar VIII and IX.

Mountain Man - And Live In The Past.

I’ve always had an unexplainable love of bands with two drummers.

GOLDEN HORN

Impale Golden Horn, is way more “petty post-rock” than a lot of the band’s other releases.

I get the distinct feeling that I should not like this band. I can’t really put my finger on why, though. Maybe is the WWE sweatshirt I saw several times while looking for a photo to post or that it looks like they only play giant festivals or empty rooms.

Never the less I keep listening the the album. They crib the Jesus Lizard pretty hard, but there are definitely worse things to steal from.

Incredibly mixed review aside, I really do like the album a fair bit and definitely think its worth checking out.

The Golden Bridge, as a whole is pretty uneven. The slow tracks almost sound like another band entirely. The the rockers, are balls out.

I wasn’t as into the album this song is from (Rotten Thing To Say) when it came out as I was the band’s previous releases. It just didn’t sound the same, so I forgot about. Listening to it again, I think what probably turned me off was that the production (by Kurt Ballou) didn’t sound like shit.

Listening to the two albums back to back, Songs For Burning Lovers sounds like it was recorded on a boombox. Its still a great album, there is no question about that, but the production can’t touch Rotten Thing To Say.

Go buy things and see them live every chance you get, you will not be disappointed.

I’m going to do a bunch of posts of bands playing Fest13 this year that I knew nothing about 20 minutes ago…

A “more punk” Banner Pilot?

We Don’t Even Live Here was one of the most punk records I heard in 2012.

Torche turns the dial from pop back to sludge. Crusher.
