FERMIN ROMERO DE TORRES

The liner notes for this album include “We made this album just as we made Consider, with no overdubs, loop pedals or effects pedals so we could preform it live exactly as it is on this record.” My dudes, effects pedals, even loopers, are portable. You can easily use those in a live setting, many bands do.

JAPAN

Dumb Days, is easily one of my top albums of last year. Like the Bully album from last year, this 90s throw-back-ish stuff isn’t usually my thing. But something about this does it for me. Super catchy with some pop-punk thrown in.

SQUARE ONE

I’m going to be honest here, I wrote this band off for years without ever listening to them. In my head they sounded like Chixdiggit and had a name like the Queers. I have zero idea where this theory came from.

I’m dumb.

This crushes.

BLOOD WET TEETH

This band has never really done it for me. I never hated them, I just couldn’t make myself care. Then Hostage Animal came out last year.

Good god.

This thing destroys. They do thrash/crossover, sludge, hardcore, metal and nail it all. It makes me want to go back and take a look at those other albums I didn’t really care about.

BOOGIE

Try to talk shit on this, I dare you.

You can’t, it is fantastic.

I’LL TAKE THE CRAB JUICE

Deforesters aren’t the most original band in the world, but they are good at what they do, taking org-core/ no idea punk and adding some pop-punk on top.

Its catchy as hell.

RUNNING

This isn’t normally my type of thing. I’m not big on 90s throwback stuff. But there is something about this album that rises above 90s grunge worship. It’s a little rougher, some songs even have a touch of noise rock, and her voice is great.

TUMMY ACHE

Sugary sweet with enough edge. The album this song is from, I Swear I’m Good at This, ends up kind of running together, with a lot of stuff sounding too similar.  But there are a few tracks like this one and Sixteen that really stand out as great.

TO SHREDS, YOU SAY?

Scream along if you know the words:

“I was playing with matchesNow I sift through the ashesIt’s cold nowThe fire’s outI might never be warm againAnd the rain comes to wash it downWorse to burn than it is to drownLet the cool waterFill my lungsAnd I won’t have to breathe again“

Like I said with the last Iron Chic post, Sad songs about being a fuck-up, feeling like you’re wasting your life, missing people (this album is pretty heavy on missing people) and not giving up, sung like this is the last chance you’ll ever get.

Iron Chic is hands down my favorite band. I can’t say enough good things about them.

ITS YOUR RIGHT

Everything about this is perfect and ridiculous.

The music style, the silly lyrics/theme the fact that it’s an entire band based on a single Kids In The Hall sketch.

I bet Eradicator shows are fun as hell.
