TWO BEASTS BY SUMAC

I loved the first Sumac album. I still think its their best release, but its also their most straight forward release. Each thing they put out pushes listenability further and further out. Now I have to be in a very specific mood to listen to the band, and even then I end up skipping around past the real “free jazz” parts of songs.

There are parts of this nearly 19 minute song that are fantastic, but you have to fade in the find them.

OLD FRIEND (STAY ALIVE) BY LAURA JANE GRACE

Despite, not being on my list of favorite albums of 2020, Stay Alive seems to something I keep going back to.

This track, Old Friend (Stay Alive) was the first thing that really grabbed me and is a pretty perfect pandemic song (even if that wasn’t the intention). Now with repeat listening, there are just so many great songs on this album, The Mountain Song, Super Natural Possession and Hanging Tree and stand outs for me. I’d don’t think there is any filler on the album. I like it so much I’ve been revisiting Against Me! later albums I fully ignored.

 Its great. Go get it it.

SWEATPANTS SPIDERMAN BY OPEN MIKE EAGLE

I wasn’t really into this album when it came out. Something about it just seemed off for me. But that something kept pulling me back to give it another try. It took some time but “Anime, Trauma and Divorce” grew on me, hard, until it became one of my favorite albums of 2020.

Go Get it.

MAKE ME A PALLET FIRE ON YOUR FLOOR BY SELF DEFENSE FAMILY

Self Defense Family have always been a a “they’re ok” band for me. Nothing was really great or terrible. They were just ok. But all 5 of the eps/singles they put out last year were all great.  Especially this song and Leeds.

What if Josie and the Pussy Cats were real and late 90s/early 00s pop-punk band?
