Anything on Backwoodz Studios gets an auto-listen from me. It doesn’t all hit, but enough does that I always give it a try.

Open Mike Eagle records are all slow burns with me. I feel I never really get into an album until the next one is announced.

I’ve been waiting for a full length from this band for a few years, and they nailed it with Easy Laugh late last year.

Billy Woods released two quality albums in one year, Aethiopes in April and Church in September. Initially Aethiopes didn’t really grab me, I think I never gave it a fair listen. But I was very into Church when it came out, enough so that I went back and gave Aethiopes another chance. Man, did I make a mistake.

Aethiopes (and Church) is one of my favorite albums of 2022.

The Bill Burr line is pretty awful, but other than that, I really like this song.

Get it. 

This sounds like a band that named themselves after a Thou song and its great.

They have a new album out, go get it.

Creeping Industrial noise rock that reminds me a bit of Young Widows, but heavier and weirder. The Worst Has Finally Happened is one of my favorite releases of 2022.

I go back and forth on Quelle Chris, I’m into it right now though.

This song and Swallow, the ep its from feel like they were market tested and made in a lab specifically for me.

Not to say Demons is fake in anyway, it just that it hits so many of my zones so perfectly its hard to imagine it wasn’t made with me in mind.

This one snuck up on me. I’ve liked previous Locrian releases (especially the Mamiffer collaboration), but I sort of forgot about the band. But I kept seeing that cube album cover and finally gave it a listen. It grabbed me right away. New Catastrophism is one of my favorite releases of 2022.
