So covers month is over. I posted a cover a day for the entire month. But I’ve posted covers before, including at least two I nearly posted again and one I accidentally did (and then deleted).

A second Kelly Clarkson cover? I didn’t see that coming.

I like this song, but it's not as good as the band’s cover of “Once Upon A Time” by Robert Bradley’s Blackwater Surprise. But I already posted that in February, so here we are, with the silver medal winner.

Second place or not, this is still a great cover that sounds and feels so much different than the original.

So the story goes that in 1989, Dinosaur Jr recorded “Lotta Love” for a Neil Young tribute record called “The Bridge: A Tribute to Neil Young.” The album also features The Pixies, The Flaming Lips, and Sonic Youth, among others. Apparently, they also recorded a second song, and then forgot/lost it for 22 years, until the band found it and put it online.

I like this cover way more than the “Lotta Love” track that ended up on the tribute album. I know it's rough, noisy, and not that well played, but that’s what makes it great.

Let's be honest here, I could do like 3 weeks of Coalesce covers. Dudes have done so many covers, including an entire Led Zeppelin covers album.  They even refer to themselves as a cover band in their cover of Amadeus.

Coalesce is one of my favorite bands of all time, and what I love about this cover is how much they own it. Yeah, the Zeppelin covers are good, and Sean's vocals are great, but musically it's still pretty much sounds like Zep. This sounds like Coalesce, top to bottom.

Yes, “Hurt” is a better song and “Rusty Cage” is sillier, but “Solitary Man” is pretty damn great. I actually have spent a fair amount of time this month trying to pick the right Cash cover to post. The American albums are full of covers, many of them good, but not that many really stick with me. "Solitary Man,“ "Hurt,” and “One” do.

Because I’m not cool, I knew this song before I knew who Minor Threat was. However, this band was my gateway into the world of indie/punk/hardcore or whatever the hell else we’re calling it these days.

I’ve gone back and forth all month about whether or not I should post The Casket Lottery’s cover of “In The Meantime” or something else. I really love their version of the song, but with Sean Ingram singing, it just doesn’t feel like a Casket Lottery song. Best Man, on the other hand, sounds like the band could have originally written it.

This is my first and probably last Mastodon post. Their last couple of albums have bored the hell out of me. I have no issues with bands growing and changing, but don’t expect me to follow a long just because I liked the old stuff. I get to grow and change, too, or not at all. That shit is my call.

This song is taken from the mostly mediocre "We Reach: The Music of the Melvins" tribute album. There are some standout tracks like this one and the Isis/Agoraphobic Nosebleed track. Sean Ingram of Coalesce also makes an appearance on Blessing The Hogs’ cover of “Hog Leg.” Dude can’t stay away from cover songs.
