Young Widows – Kerosene Girl

The Village — Sun, 08 Jun 2014 16:23:52 +0000

I was prepared to hate this album. I loved “Old Wounds” and did not care for “In And Out Of Youth And Lightness” at all. I expect that downward trend to continue. And it did, at first, but i kept listening. Eventually I got sucked in. Its a great album, not “Old Wounds” great, but still damn good.

Pajo – Attitude

The Village — Sun, 18 Dec 2011 19:27:00 +0000

I’ve never been a big fan of the Misfits. I’m sure to some this is heresy, but it’s the truth. Somehow they managed to sound to cartoony, even next to the Ramones.

Nevertheless David Pajo’s (Slint, Tortoise, Royal Trux, Zwan, etc) 9-song Misfits cover album, “Scream With Me” is killing me.

Bad Secrets – Gimme Sound

The Village — Fri, 09 Sep 2011 03:25:06 +0000

I’m a big Young Widows fan and tend to eat up whatever they put out. This includes previous bands like Black Cross and Breather Resist and side projects like Brain Banger and Black God. Bad Secrets falls into the side projects category.

The band is Evan Patterson of Young Widows and Dan Davis of Kodan Armada. The whole album was improvised and recorded during three weekends, and it sounds like it. As much as I really want to love this record and its weirdness, I can really only listen to a couple of tracks before I have to stop.

“It’s not your fault that you’re maximuuuuuuuuuum. ”

I’ve never been into Manson, not even during those early years. The music, for me, was always so-so, but the fans were only second in shittiness to Juggalos. Just giant black pants wearing cartoons with “ironic” look at me but don’t look at me t-shirts. It’s hard not to write off a band that inspires these dregs.

As much as I do enjoy this cover, it inspires no interest in me whatsoever to go back and give Manson another go.

Full on balls to the wall rock. So good.

This was taken from a split Coliseum did with Doomriders called “Not Of This World,” in which both bands covered Danzig songs. Hunt it down, it’s worth it.

I never understood the big deal about this band, then all the sudden it just hit me and now I love Spiderland.
