There is a line in the song Stay Positive by the Hold Steady that goes “There’s gonna come a time when the true scene leaders forget where they differ and get big picture ‘cause the kids at the shows, they’ll have kids of their own and the sing-along songs will be our scriptures.”

I’m old enough that this is happening now.

In light of that, I’m going to spend the rest of the year highlighting our scriptures.

Ugh, Mustard Plug. 

I’ve never really liked this band, even during the ska years or living in Grand Rapids, it couldn’t make a dent in that distaste. But this damn song,  goddamn this song. So catching and upbeat. It's perfect. Listen to it and not get it stuck in your head.

There are about 5 Andrew Jackson songs that should be on this list, and there might be by the end of it, but we’re starting here.

Yelling the opening line of this song feels so very good. Doing it with a room full of people feels even better.

It probably says a lot about me how often the chorus of this song enters my head and how often it gets played in the car while driving home from work..

Old Testament. Every song Operation Ivy ever released could easily be on this list and probably should. But spending 27 days posting the entirety of OPIV’s discography seems pretty ridiculous. If you want more than this song, just pull out the cd you bought when you were 15 and listen to everything.
