TAG: SOUTHERN LORD

One of the guys from Sunn0))) making the type of music you would expect, but it is all inspired by Bernard Herrmann, the composer behind movies like Vertigo, Psycho, Cape Fear, and Citizen Kane.

This is what head banging was invented for.

I didn’t appreciate how good these guys are when I saw then open for Converge & Coalesce a bunch of year ago and I regret it.

I wasn’t as into the album this song is from (Rotten Thing To Say) when it came out as I was the band’s previous releases. It just didn’t sound the same, so I forgot about. Listening to it again, I think what probably turned me off was that the production (by Kurt Ballou) didn’t sound like shit. 

Listening to the two albums back to back, Songs For Burning Lovers sounds like it was recorded on a boombox. Its still a great album, there is no question about that, but the production can’t touch Rotten Thing To Say.

Go buy things and see them live every chance you get, you will not be disappointed. 

This band has never really done it for me. I never hated them, I just couldn’t make myself care. Then Hostage Animal came out last year. 

Good god.

This thing destroys. They do thrash/crossover, sludge, hardcore, metal and nail it all. It makes me want to go back and take a look at those other albums I didn’t really care about.

Where has this band been and why didn’t someone tell me about this.

Sludgey crust thrash with some Coalesce/Botch touches.

This is harder and more brutal than anything you’ve listened to in weeks.
