Touché Amoré - Pathfinder
All posts in October will be from bands playing Fest 10 in Gainsville Florida. Everything will be posted in the order that they are playing.
Friday, 9:50 at Double Down.
I thought I saw these guys a year ago and didn’t really care, turns out I didn’t actually see them. Which I guess is good, otherwise I’d be bummed about how stupid I was. Get in on this band before they blow up even more.
La Dispute - The Most Beautiful Bitter Fruit
I’ve been hating on this band since they started. I got why “the kids” loved them, but it did nothing for me at all. Their new album, Wildlife, made me eat my words.
Good job.
You can stream the entire album on the band’s Facebook page.
All posts in the month of August will be covers.
Originally by Bruce Springsteen
Springsteen cover number four.
This song, and my playing it 30 times in a row one Sunday afternoon, is what made me want to do this month of cover songs.
I love this cover.
End Measured Mile is the album I’ve been waiting for Small Brown Bike to make for the last ten years.
A joke side project band with a pot/basketball themed album and song titles. The release is called “Chicago Bowls,” and the song titles are “Scottie Spliffen,” “Luc Bongley,” “Michael Jordank” and “Tony Kukush.”
Despite (or because of, I’m not really sure) the weed puns, I’m pretty into these 5 songs. I’m sure the Freaks and Geeks samples are helping push this into awesome status.
You can get it for free at either the band’s Bandcamp page or at their blog.
I know almost nothing about this band; I can’t even remember for sure how I found them. What I do know is that Sport is some French dudes playing great punk/indie/emo (or whatever this stuff is called these days) with some post-rock touches.
You can get their demo on Bandcamp.
Edit: I figured out how I found them, heavybootsmusic.tumblr.com
I remember checking this band out a few years ago and sort of liking but but not enough to really care. I’ve listened to this track 8 times in a row now. I think it’ll stick this time.
This song is from the band’s great Nervous Energies set. Normally, this song is played on keys rather than guitar; the keys version (the regular version) can be found on their album “Their Dreams Are Dead, But Ours Is The Golden Ghost.”
I am currently engaged in a campaign to completely overplay and thus ruin this song/band for myself.
Three things really make this song: the accordion, xylophone, and Laura Stevenson’s voice. I do really like this song, but I can’t get through the entire album. Everything isn’t as good as The Healthy One.
I wanted to post this song months ago, but I couldn’t find a single picture of this band playing live.
<!--The photo above is actually a screen cap from a YouTube video of a staged performance. Does this band not play shows?
-->You can download the EP this song is from, as well as two others, at itlikestoparty.com.
I discovered this band about 3 hours ago, but I can’t stop listening to it. You can download the album for whatever price you want (including free) at their Bandcamp page.
